About
The carpentry sector has lost its way, evolving into a cheap practice of stacking up jobs and rushing through them to not only meet deadlines but also to maximise profit.
The soul and pride of what was a respected practice has long gone.
We’re under no illusion, the majority of people want cheap and fast, the industry has evolved to meet those demands, the public want MDF units built and painted in a week so they can save money and avoid disruption. In exchange for this pace and pricing they're forced to tolerate bodging, corner-cutting and a finished product that will last only a few years at best.
In contrast to this we only work with clients whose priorities shun the norm, people who expect quality and craftsmanship. This isn’t about profit for us, it’s about having a budget that gives us the freedom to do things properly, to carefully consider design and materials, to order the perfect hardware and timber in advance, to build models and final pieces with absolute accuracy using the best tools and equipment. To create a finished article that will last generations, improving with age.
We’re unable to work to deadlines for this very reason, over many years we’ve learnt that deadlines are, on the whole, impossible to meet as projects typically evolve and modern lives complicate steady progress, they serve only to rush work which results in long working days of fatigued labour, of ‘making do’ and compromise. We therefore, operate a queuing system, once a project is complete we contact the next client on our list. If the requirement is still live we take a deposit and get things underway.
Our experience in the field spans generations and whilst we’re quick to adopt modern technologies and the latest tools, we also thrive whilst making things using traditional methods from Europe and Japan.
We source timber locally, often milling down slabs and sawn wood to create components. We use only the best glues, screws and finishes.
It’s our aim to carry out as much work as possible in our workshops, not so we can avoid scrutiny, so we can enjoy our full array of equipment and prevent our clients suffering unnecessary noise, odours and dust.
